For the second time in three years, the Lions open up the season against a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) team: Youngstown State. The Penguins have been outscored 119-9 in their last three games against Football Bowl Subdivision teams, and the only thing potentially preventing that number from becoming significantly worse is the shaky situation at quarterback for the Lions.

It would be presumptuous to write off the Penguins before the game is even played – especially after FCS school Appalachian State knocked off Michigan in the Big House, essentially ending Lloyd Carr’s coaching career. But we’ll do just that and predict the odds of a Penguins’ victory stand at Beaver-Stadium’s-game-attendance-to-1.
