Penn State Rolls – Bring On Bama!

by David on September 3, 2011

Penn State overwhelmed Indiana State 41-7 as Chaz Powell returned the game’s opening kickoff 95 yards for a score and Silas Redd led a rejuvenated Penn State ground game with two rushing touchdowns as Penn State rushed for 245 yards.

Redd ran for 94 of his 104 yards by the second quarter, including a 4-yard score for a 28-0 lead. Indiana State managed 170 yards of total offense and got pushed around by a much more physical Penn State team than we saw last year. anxious to rebound from last year’s 7-6 campaign.

The 2011 season got off to a great start as Powell sidestepped his way around defenders before sprinting down the field for his 95-yard return on the opening kickoff. After 13 seconds it was 6-0 Penn State.

After a three-and-out for Indiana State, Redd capped up the next drive with his 9-yard score, aided by a great block by Zordich. Redd finished with 12 carries, spending much of the second half on the sideline with the game well in hand.

Both Bolden and McGloin got equal shots with Bolden finishing just 6 of 12 for 37 yards. Bolden was not helped by his receivers as he had a couple of nice throws downfield bounce off the hands of receivers Derek Moye and Justin Brown, respectively.

McGloin, on the other hand, was 6 of 8 for 77 yards, with the offense looking crisper at times under his watch, especially in the 14-point second quarter. Based on today’s performance, it has to be McGloin who starts next week against Alabama.

One area that the Lions need to improve on in the next week is it’s offensive line who really struggled at times in pass protection. Considering the level of the opposition that is really worrying with the speedy Crimson Tide up next.
